What is podcasting?

Podcasting is a way of automatically receiving audio and video files. These files can be saved on your PC, laptop or portable device (such as an mp3 player) and played when and where you want.

When you subscribe to a podcast, each new program is automatically sent to you, so you always have the latest news and information.

What do I need to receive a podcast?

To receive podcasts you need to install podcast software on your computer. This software will check for new programs when you connect to the Internet.

There are many podcast software packages available on the Internet, usually free of charge. Commonly used packages can be found at Podcastingnews.com. The major ones include:

  • iTunes
  • Doppler
  • Juice.

Please note: CSIRO does not recommend any particular package, and suggests that you read the product information carefully before downloading to your computer. CSIRO is not responsible for the content of external websites.

What podcasts does CSIRO produce?

CSIRO has two podcasts:

  • CSIROpod is an audio podcast (and includes a Mandarin language sub podcast, CSIROpod Mandarin)
  • CSIROvod is a video podcast.

Both podcasts feature the latest news on CSIRO research. A typical episode runs for 5-10 minutes.

How do I subscribe to the CSIROpod?

How you subscribe will vary slightly depending on the software you are using.

If you have iTunes click on the iTunes icon below to subscribe to the CSIRO podcast feed.

If you have other podcast software click on the podcast icon below, which will open a new page. Copy the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) or web address from the top of your web browser and paste it into your podcasting software.

After you subscribe, new episodes will be downloaded automatically to your computer.
