Queensland Centre for Advanced Technologies has established a critical mass of expertise that delivers leading-edge technologies and high-value products and processes to the resources sector.

Summary

The Queensland Centre for Advanced Technologies (QCAT) was developed as a partnership between CSIRO and the Queensland Government.

QCAT is a world-class research and development precinct that provides outstanding science, engineering and innovation to the Australian mining, exploration, minerals processing and manufacturing industries. 

The Centre underpins Australia’s leadership in the global resources sector and demonstrates the commitment of the Queensland Government to maintaining that leadership.

Located at Pullenvale, in Brisbane’s western suburbs, QCAT undertakes approximately A$50 million of research and development each year.

Our work contributes to National Research Flagships, including:

  • Energy Transformed Flagship
  • Light Metals Flagship
  • Minerals Down Under Flagship. 
    The laboratory was constructed with financial support from the Australian and Queensland Governments, and has won awards for its design.

The Technology Transfer Centre

The Queensland Centre for Advanced Technologies is a focal point for interaction between researchers and industry.

There is a strong onsite committment to furthering technology transfer in the resources industries.

The co-location and support of commercial enterprises and other research providers at QCAT's Technology Transfer Centre provides a thriving environment for the exchange of insight, information and technolgy.

Rio Tinto ALCAN Queensland Research and Development Centre

The A$2.4 million purpose-built centre is developing new technologies and enhancing existing alumina production processes to produce more alumina from less raw materials and energy, and lower waste and emissions.

The laboratory was constructed with financial support from the Australian and Queensland Governments, and has won awards for its design.
